Mary Stevenson Cassatt
born. Allegheny City, Pennsylvania in 1844
died. Paris, France in 1926

EDUCATION
Mary Cassatt's love of Europe, which is where she ended up spending most of her life, may have began when she was a child. Her family lived in France and Germany for four years during that time period. Before studying art in Europe, she attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for four years. In Europe, she copied and analyzed paintings in the Louvre and other art museums. In Paris, she studied with the leading artists of the time, which are now known as Academic Artists. An example of Academic Art is shown below.
